Security BSides Sponsorship Information Pack

Firstly, thanks for your interest in sponsoring this year’s Security BSides Perth. Last year’s conference was spectacular, so this year we’re planning an even more ambitious example of how a grass roots security conference should be run for Perth’s cyber security community.

What is BSides?

BSides is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members. The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time. It creates opportunities for individuals to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. It is where conversations for the next-big-thing are happening.

What can you expect at Perth’s BSides Conference?

Following the success of last year’s Security BSides Perth (2017), the team couldn’t be happier to be planning it all again for 2018.

This year will be bigger and better than before. We are planning a proactive advertising campaign that will run throughout the year to attract a bigger audience from all over Australia, and internationally.

We know the Perth community is hungry for more, but something that surprised all of us was the number of out-of-state delegates that flew in especially for the event. Amazing!

We already will have a selection of local, national and international speakers lined up to speak in 2018, along with demonstrations, workshops, physical security lessons on lock picking, and more. This is your opportunity, as a sponsor, to get in early to sponsor some aspect of the security event that everyone is talking about.

Touching every aspect of the Security Community

Ticket Sales

In 2017, we sold over 200 tickets for our weekend event. As a result, we were able to donate and offer free tickets to worthy causes, including the Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN) and Hackers Helping Hackers.

Every delegate also received a fully-hackable, branded conference badge and t-shirt on registration.

Social Media

Over the weekend and following days, our unique hashtag #BsidesPer was used over 500 times by 140 individual twitter and LinkedIn users, reaching a community of almost 300,000 followers. This number is still growing.

Tweets congratulated speakers for high-quality talks, discussed the hackable badges and commentated on the progress of the conference.

Attracting International Talent

Keynote - Chester Wisniewski

Chester Wisniewski has been involved in the information security space since the late 1980s. He is currently a Principal Research Scientist at Sophos Vancouver. Chet divides his time between research, public speaking, writing and attempting to communicate the complexities of security to the press and public in a way they can understand.

Chester has spoken at RSA, InfoSec Europe, LISA, USENIX, Virus Bulletin and many Security BSides events around the world in addition to regularly consulting with NPR, CNN, CBC, The New York Times and other media outlets.

“BSides Perth 2017 was the best-first BSides I’ve ever been to”

Inspiring Local Talent

We had a diverse range of speakers, from ex-special forces members and police officers, to university students and first-time speakers. Principle Research Scientist Chester Wisniewski, of Sophos Security, himself an organizer of BSides Vancouver, delivered our keynote and really set the scene for the high quality talks that followed.
